Setting sail from Exmouth we cruise along the stunning South Devon coastline, past pirates coves, buried treasures and all the nature and wildlife this beautiful stretch of the coast has to offer.
We then sail into the heart of the busy Devon fishing town of Brixham. Life here has always concentrated around the harbour, where there is an eclectic mix of both traditional and modern boats. Many of the fishing vessels head out to sea every morning, bringing home the daily catch to Brixham’s famous Fish Market. You will find some of the most delicious seafood and the freshest of fish on the menu in most of the cafes and restaurants in the town.
This famous festival is centred around Sir Francis Drake’s ship, The Golden Hind, anchored right in heart of Brixham Harbour. The Golden Hind Museum Ship is one of only two full sized replica of one of the most iconic ships of 16th Century explorer and privateer, Sir Francis Drake.
For over fifty years, the ship has been a feature of the charming Brixham harbour, providing visitors and holidaymakers with information and entertainment it’s even appeared on many films and tv programmes. Although it is open all year round, during the Brixham Pirate Festival the ship really comes alive as the centre piece of the celebrations.
This is a truly family friendly, fun filled day out. Live music plays throughout the day with a brilliantly pirate-themed band line up that really builds an energetic and enjoyable atmosphere.
There’s plenty to fill your bellies as well as the local streets are crammed with stalls selling heaps of delicious local street foods. Market and craft traders also line the pavements selling everything a pirate would ever need!
Throughout the festival there are also some fabulously fearsome military and period re-enactments. These realistic performances feature pirate guns firing and big cannons booming loudly around the harbour town – giving us a real feel of pirates in battle!
Sailing on our Pride of Exmouth boat, there is a fully licenced bar on board serving a range of local ales and gin, alongside a range of hot and cold refreshments and snacks.
Maintaining her traditional features, this boat is also modern, exceptionally clean and well maintained and toilets are also on board.
With around two hours each way, there is plenty of time for you to sit back, relax and listen to the live commentary from the Skipper as they highlight the sights along the way.
So why not get together with family and friends in your finest pirate clothes and join in as the whole town celebrates everything pirate!
