The Jurassic Coast
The
UK’s only natural World Heritage Site lies between Exmouth in Devon and
Studland Bay in Dorset. The cliff
contains 185 million years of history of the Earth’s development
in only 95 miles. This sequence of
rocks records the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods of time and has been
nicknamed “The Jurassic Coast”.
The rocks along the coast line dip gently to the east meaning the oldest rocks are found in the west and progressively become younger as you move east. The change charts the story of changes in the earth from ancient deserts to tropical seas. The rocks have eroded into various land forms that make this section of England one of the most beautiful and unique.
With Stuart Line Cruises you can sail along the coastline while listening to full commentary about the cliff lines. The only way to truly glimpse this ever changing coastline is by boat so why not join us on one of our summer 'Jurassic Coast Cruises'
We can cater for different groups of people from Geologists to Schools to Families. Education Packs are available helping link the site into Schemes of Work in Primary Schools.
