Come and Cruise Along the Oldest Working Shipping Canal in Europe!
Exeter Canal is 6 miles long and our unique boat trip takes you all along this stunning man-made waterway that links Exeter and Exmouth
Opened in 1566 the canal was originally 16 feet wide and 3 foot deep but was extended to its current 42 feet wide and 14 ft deep in 1701 to allow for crafts of up to 150 tons. This canal is now the oldest working shipping canal in Europe
So come and join us travelling at a relaxing pace as we sail along the canal admiring the two manually operated docks at Turf Locks and Double Locks where you will be able to sit back and soak up the scenery whilst our crew busy themselves on the docks!
As we glide further along the canal we then bring traffic to a standstill as one of Exeter’s main roads comes to a halt when the Countess Weir Swing Bridge ceremoniously opens to allow our passage through
This is a one-way trip that leaves Exmouth to travel up to Exeter at 11.00am and then leaves Exeter to travel to Exmouth at 2.00pm
For your return journey there are ample public transport links within a few minutes flat walk at both Exmouth and Exeter and our crew will be happy to show you the way!
